This small apartment block, designed by Ronald Janssen Architecten, respects its historical context. It is a contemporary addition to its environment with the adjacent VOC warehouse. The horizontal concrete facade beams refer to the wooden beams in the end facade of the monument.
At the same time, thanks to the symmetrical structure and the grid, an unambiguous gesture is created. As firm as this gesture is, every detail of Foeliestraat 2-4 has been carefully considered. For example, the house number is included in the concrete. By placing the building on a plinth, the height difference has been subtly resolved.
