The context is a palimpsest of overlying landscapes. Within this, the park itself forms an exception by presenting another piece of typical Dutch landscape (ring canal, dike and polder). With the realization of the park, this piece of landscape has entered into an exciting dialogue with current issues such as water storage, climate adaptation, biodiversity and social cohesion. These contemporary functions and goals, together with the creation of an economically feasible plan, have been incorporated into the new design as a matter of course. The existing landscape values are strengthened and combined with opportunities to exercise, stay and meet. An active, ecological neighborhood park has thus been created for people and animals.

The plan area is an elongated zone between historic living on the Ringdijk and the economic activities of Schiphol Airport. The design of Ringdijkpark makes it possible to have these two diverse functions (living and working) at a short distance from each other. This without influencing each other in their core ideas and core tasks. In the quest for its perfection, the design goes further than just placing a buffer between the two functions. It simultaneously creates a recreational, social, aesthetic and ecological green border; a green space with a story, which provides intensive added value at neighborhood level, but can also contribute to the larger whole of recreational networks and spatial structures. The Ringdijkpark thus forms the pivot point between the Ringvaart and the Geniepark (part of the Defense Line of Amsterdam).
