Huig Maaskant, the well known 50's / 60's master architect from Rotterdam, was an architectural designer from micro to macro. Every single building can positively be considered a 'Gesamtkunstwerk'.
The Provinciehuis Noord-Brabant, his '71 masterpiece, is a showcase of his signature: sobre, rough and refined at the same time. Functionalist Maaskant is often described as 'the designer of the grand gesture' featuring concrete, steel and glass, applying them in a subdued manner.
The essence is in the detail is what comes to my mind, configuring this photographic collection of built parts: a tribute to Maaskant.
